Lady Bug Cast

Two weeks ago my mom fell and broke her ankle in 3 places. She has been staying with us so I can help her get around. 

6 days go she had surgery...they put in a metal plate and 9 screws. I was told by the nurses this is one of the most painful breaks =(

Today she got the staples out of her ankle and a cast. She LOVES lady bugs so I told her to get a red cast and I would dress it up for her. 

She loves it!!! 

I colored the head of the lady bug with a sharpie so I could play with the shape a bit as I was going. Then I cut the vinyl eyes and spots out with my Cricut Explore. The vinyl would not stay stuck to the cast so I put Krazy Glue (super glue) on the back of every spot and both eyes. The antennas are made out of pipe cleaners that I shaped and twisted together at the bottom and glued on with the Krazy Glue. 

My mom loves it so much so kept telling me I need to start a business decorating casts. Lol. I have to say it did turn out pretty cute =)

DIY Daily Planner

It's inspiration time over at The Cutting Cafe! This week we have been assigned the Planner Set. Let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE this planner! You can totally customize it to work for you. The Cutting Cafe Design Team has done an awesome job showing different ways to make this file work for everyone.

There are lots of different printable sets that come with the Planner Set to keep you organized through the year. The great thing about making your own planner is that you don't have to put in what you won't use! 

A pocket to put receipts or other important things in.

To make the dividers strong I used cardboard form cereal boxes and then covered them with paper.

I thought it would be fun to have some pictures in my planner in random places. This one is on the inside cover.

Now, I'm going to tell you about one of my favorite features about the Explore. It can write things in your hand writing! Seriously amazing! RIGHT!?!

After my dad passed away (almost 2 years ago) I searched through everything I had to try to find something from him to hold onto. My dad wasn't one to write letters or give gifts usually... I did find a couple birthday cards from when I was a teenager that he had signed.  I took a picture of the message he wrote and had my Explore write it so I could carry it with me every day! I put it with one of my all time favorite pictures of my dad.

Last minute birthday gift

My daughter received an invitation to a birthday party a week before the party...usually that wouldn't be a problem, but things have been a bit hectic here in the Goodwin house! So I didn't have time to even think about what to make until the night before the party at about 8:00 p.m.

The invitation was homemade =) and had the Eiffel Tower on it. So I looked up Paris decor on Pinterest and found lots of chandeliers in the decor. I already had a canvas to make this so my daughter and I thought it was perfect! It would go nicely with the poster of the Eiffel Tower in her friends bedroom.

The first thing I did was to prepare the canvas with Gesso and let it dry.

When the Gesso was dry my daughter painted the canvas black. (this will be the color of the chandelier)

While the black paint was drying I cut the chandelier out with my Cricut Explore. I used Orcal 651 (outdoor vinyl). I have had problems with the indoor vinyl sticking to a canvas in the past...I did not have that trouble with the outdoor vinyl.

After cutting the image out, I weeded it.

I picked the image up with transfer tape and carefully placed it on the canvas.

My daughter painted the canvas. Sometimes the paint seeps under the vinyl. If you want perfectly sharp edges, paint over your vinyl with Mod Podge and let it dry before you paint the canvas the color that you want it. (A tip from Logan Claar) I did not do that here because I like the look of the imperfect edges.

 

We let the paint set for a bit before we took off the vinyl. (The paint was still wet)

Carefully take the vinyl off the canvas.

Once the paint was dry I put glitter glue on the lights. I am wishing that I had some glitter glue that had orange and yellow sparkles in it...I didn't think of making my own until after my daughter had already taken it to the party. NEXT TIME! Lol!

My daughter was really happy with the results =)

All about packaging at The Cutting Cafe

Hello everyone! Its inspiration time over at The Cutting Cafe! This time it's all about packaging. Regina, the owner, has several packaging cut files. I chose to use the CD Holder set for my project. The possibilities are endless for decorating these CD Holders!

My daughter, Linaya, is in Choir. The teacher sends CDs home with the students so they can practice their songs. She wanted me to make her a cute cover to keep her CD in. Here's what I came up with...

Linaya loves it so much she told me I should sell them to the kids in her class =) 

I also made CD Holders for the 3 discs of pictures I took while my husbands cousin was visiting us.

I LOVE making these! They are very fast and easy to put together.

I wanted to print out some of the pictures of Colton and the different things we did while he was here. I found this little Suitcase Mini Book at The Cutting Cafe. It was the perfect thing to go along with the Alaska CD Holders I made for him.

 I got a text from Colton's mom just after he got home. She told me she cried when she looked at them. It's always nice when you can touch someone like that with something you've made.
